Donate Bitcoins to the Red Cross in Nepal

After the terrible events that have taken place in Nepal recently, the world has come together to provide support. Some countries have set up field hospitals, others send aid and money. There is one thing that everyone can agree on – every little bit helps.

That’s why the Bitcoin community has banded together and donated money to help the citizens of Nepal affected by the devastating earthquake. To date, Bitcoin owners have raised more than 20 BTC (over $4,500!) to support the Red Cross and their efforts in Nepal.
Here’s how you can contribute:

  • Changetip – a site for sending BTC tips to others is sending donations to the Redcross over Twitter. [ChangeTip services have been discontinued as of 2019]
  • The BitGive Foundation – the organization, which is Bitcoins’ first non-profit, has set up a campaign for Medic Mobile, which uses mobile technology to improve health services, which had this to say about the support received:

“The Medic Mobile team is actively exploring how we can help with local, coordinated relief efforts after the earthquake that devastated Kathmandu on Saturday, April 25th. Our third largest office is based there and very thankfully all of our teammates are safe. The Bitcoin community has already been so supportive of our efforts in the past and we’d be grateful for that support again. Every donation will go directly to our Nepal office and help as we deploy the right technology. Thank you from our whole team.”
