Brisbane Airport To Enable Cryptocurrency Payments

Cryptocurrency payments have reached their first airport terminal. According to a local media report Brisbane Airport (BNE) is the first to launch cryptocurrency payments across its domestic and international terminals. Travellers can use their crypto assets such as BTC, ETH, and Dash to pay for  goods and services at the stores, shops, and restaurants. BNE teamed up with TravelbyBit payment system to make this possible. Enabling cryptocurrency payments at an airport terminal makes sense, since there are many foreign travellers who would be able to use those currencies instead of acquiring local currency or any other widely accepted fiat asset.

Brands and Stores Interested in Cryptocurrency Payments at BNE

So far, the initiative in Brisbane has many terminal retailers interested in making terminal shopping easy with cryptocurrency payments. A few of those interested retailers, restaurants and outlets include Spoon, Windmill & Co, Botanist, and Forte Espresso. Another retailer that is interested is BAC. This retailer is associated with stores like Australian Way, Carry On, Merino Collection and Dreamtime Journeyl.

In this regard, Costa Kouros – awpl’s managing director said

We are excited to be a launch merchant in the world’s first digital currency friendly airport. Awpl is a proud partner of Brisbane Airport and a strong supporter of the innovation in customer experience driven by BAC.

Beyond Cryptocurrency Payments at the Terminal

BAC’s management sees more potential in the use of blockchain technology for other purposes. According to Roel Hellemons, General Manager Strategic Planning and Development of BAC, the company is glad to present cryptocurrency payment systems for travelers. He also claims that offering digital currency experience to travels will make terminal service more user-friendly:

“We’re also proud to be the first airport in the world to achieve this in partnership with a small local start-up business. TravelbyBit, whose pioneering thinking is drawing attention to Brisbane as a severe breeding ground of innovative thinking.”

“This is just the beginning for us as we hope to expand the digital currency option across the business. So watch this space,” Mr. Hellemons concluded

The Collaboration of TravelbyBit with BNE

TravelbyBit is quickly growing as a trusted payment gateway for clients looking to enable cryptocurrency payments. Its network of associated merchants across BAC terminal who accept digital currencies as a payment include hotels, entertainment venues and restaurants. Airport transport is also an interesting area on which TravelbyBit has set its sights. Fortitude Valley is one of the main areas where TravelbyBit is focused. Caleb Yeoh, CEO of TravelbyBit sees the advantage of cryptocurrency payments in the travel industry. He recently said that “Whenever you travel overseas you have to deal with multiple currencies. Also you never know what exchange rates the banks are charging you. Here at TravelbyBit, we are promoting the Bitcoin travel movement. Digital currency for worldwide travel. It’s simple, safe and there are no bank fees,”

The Buzz

Certainly Brisbane is creating a lot of buzz with its airport becoming a pioneer in the Bitcoin travel movement. TravelbyBit is taking advantage of this opportunity as well, showing the world that there is a clear use case for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the travel industry. Both TravelbyBit and Brisbane recognize the potential of this initiative.
