Themes revolving around ancient civilizations seem a dime a dozen in the slot genre. As such we were a bit hesitant when beginning our review of Betsoft Gaming's video Slot Rooks Revenge. Despite some positive buzz about the game, our concern was that thematically it might be a bit tired. We couldn't have been more wrong!
Rooks Revenge puts a fresh spin (pun intentional) on video slots with an injection of humour that's infectious. Rook is an Aztec chief who performs dazzling feats of dance humiliation throughout the game.
Both the graphics and animation are amongst the best we've seen while the music complements the theme strongly. This five reel, twenty-five payline slot is as funny as it is ambitious.

Rook’s Revenge Controls
The controls are simple stone buttons, which are easy to work out and use. While they are pleasing to the eye, the lack of Autospin or Quickplay options is a glaring omission. In this day and age, one has come to expect those functions as standard, especially in such an advanced design.
From an artistic point of view, the symbols are stunning and have a superb attention to detail. They are a variety of stone carvings, together with a golden mask that is the bonus symbol. The Wild is a peacock carving and can substitute for any other symbol. The symbols explode on a winning payline creating loads of exciting payouts.
Rook’s Revenge Features
There are Free Spins, Multipliers and an astounding maximum win of 2 330 000 coins to be won. The Free Spins are activated when landing three or more Golden Masks and can be re-triggered in Free spin play.
The Multipliers vary between 1x-5x in regular play and 3x-15x in Free Spins mode. They are activated by matching falling symbols and can continue to escalate as more match.
Rook’s Revenge on Mobile
The Mobile version works exceptionally well, with our only minor bugbear being that in Android the full-screen mode didn’t seem to cover the entire surface area.
Conclusion
Rooks Revenge is a great deal of fun, and the exploding Multipliers are a great addition. The lack of control functions and slightly low RTP is disappointing though, but overall this slot is a winner.
