New Yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Bought with Bitcoins

Ok, so I’m officially jealous. Someone just bought a $210,000 Lamborghini Gallardo with Bitcoins from Lamborghini Newport Beach, California. BTW did I mention this is literally my favourite car of all time!

I read this article first on Business Insider, so credit to them for covering it and for the information.

The Facts:

  • 2 weeks ago Newport Beach accepted a payment for a Tesla Model S in Bitcoins, the delership’s first car sold via the coins.
  • Today another user placed an order but this time for a brand new 2014 Lamborghini Gallardo for a total USD cost of $208,395 (plus $1,600 for shipping).

The Story

Newport decided to try accepting Bitcoins for payments for cars and sold their first one 2 weeks ago. then today they received an anonomyous order for a brand new Lambo Gallardo with payment in the form of 216.8433 Bitcoins ($209,995). Copies of the official paperwork from Newport Beach dealership were then leaked online and the dealership maintains that they did not leak them.

The 4chan user that ordered the car posted on the forum that he had just ordered the new Gallardo but no one seemed to take him seriously. Maybe that’s why the documents ended up being leaked. You can verify the purchase by checking the transaction number in the Bitpay screenshot versus the one the alleged buy posted on 4chan.

The Aftermath

The dealership says they are now starting to get serious calls from people wanting to buy high-end luxury cars using Bitcoins. I’ve also noticed that the search volume for “Lamborghini Newport Beach” is skyrocketing at the moment, presumably due to the press around the first car sale. I’m going to assume that they will be getting a LOT more calls very soon. Congrats to the guys at Newport for jumping on the wave and great marketing for their dealership.
